Glenflesk 0-13 Rathmore 1-13

A GOAL from the penalty spot in the 61st minute gave Rathmore victory over Glenflesk in a keenly contested derby in Glenflesk on Saturday, with Ciaran Collins bravely opting to go for a goal with that late spot kick when the teams were tied at 0-13 apiece.

Glenflesk took a 0-4 to 0-1 lead by the 12th minute, and then Rathmore points from Cathal Ryan, James Darmody (fee), Brian Friel, Darragh Nagle and Brendan O’Keeffe pushed the visitors into a 0-6 to 0-5 lead at half time.

The second half was equally nip and tuck, although Rathmore – twice – opened up a three-point lead in the third quarter, with Padraig Moynihan, Cathal Ryan, James Darmody and Ciaran Collins among their scorers as they led 0-11 to 0-8 after 40 minutes.

Glenflesk then had their best period of the game as they scored five points in a seven-minute period to lead 0-13 to 0-11 after 48 minutes.

Alan Dineen and then Collins raised flags for the visitors late on but just as it looked like the teams would share the points, Rathmore were awarded a penalty in added on time, which Collins converted to give his team their second win of the campaign.

Patrick Darcy was Glenflesk’s best player, finishing with five points and carrying the fight best for the losing side.

Laune Rangers 1-14 Killarney Legion 1-10

LAUNE Rangers backed up their opening round win away to Kerins O’Rahillys with a four-point win over Killarney Legion at JP O’Sullivan Park on Sunday.

The winners had eight different scorers, including three points each from John Tyther and Matt Leslie (they each converted two frees) while Daire Cleary scored three points from play.

Legion started a little better and led 0-4 to 0-2 after 20 minutes but the home side rallied in the second quarter to outscore Legion by four points to two to lead 0-6 to 0-4 at half time.

There was little between the teams in the third quarter, though Laune Rangers had slightly extended their lead to three points, 0-11 to 0-8, by the 50th minute.

The last 10 minutes produced the game’s two goals – Stephen Gannon raising a green flag for the Killorglin men and Eoghan O’Sullivan doing likewise for Legion.

Ryan O’Grady and Finbarr Murphy each scored four points for the Killarney club who might feel a little unlucky to have no points to show from two decent performances, but it is Laune Rangers who have enjoyed a flying start following their promotion to the top flight.
