- Jimmy Darcy

DIVISION 5A

Asdee 1-2 Duagh 3-18

KILLIAN Buckley (5, 4f), Kieran Lucey, and Ted and Oisín Moloney had Duagh 0-8 in front before Ted Moloney struck for the first goal. Asdee did pull back 1-1 of their own, but the likes of Oisin Moloney, Mikey Galvin, and Senan Ó Caíomh kept the Duagh scores coming and another Ted Moloney goal meant that they deservedly led by 2-12 to 1-1 at half-time.

The second half was a similar story, with Dylan Breen’s goal putting Duagh ahead by 3-14 to 1-1 and they truth is that they had the luxury of running their bench from early in the second half and ran out very comfortable 3-18 to 1-2 winners in the finish.

Kilgarvan 2-14

St Patrick’s Blennerville 1-18

BOTH sides exchanged early points, St. Pats on target through Fetgal O’Brienm before Kilgarvan took control with a rapid 1-2, Jimmy Kelliher with the goal. However, Fergal O’Brien slotted 1-1 in reply. St. Pats added two points but O’Brien pulled back another. Brian Murphy and O’Brien equalised despite a Kilgarvan score and Gary Savage and Eoin Greaney cancelled out other Kilgarvan scores to leave it 1-7 apiece at half-time.

The second half began with three points from Fergal O’Brien two from play and one from a free.

Not to be outdone Kilgarvan were quick to take control of the ball and place it over the bar. With a score for score happening, Brian Murphy again added a point, but Kilgarvan responded with 1-2, Ronan Foley with the goal. Fergal O’Brien, and Eoin Greaney (2) each added fantastic points. Kilgarvan replied.

With the clock ticking down St Pats three final scores came from Eoin Greaney, Fergal O’Brien, and Gary Savage. Kilgarvan got two points in quick succession, but just couldn’t quite close the gap. Full Time St Pats 1-18 Kilgarvan 2-14

Tuosist 1-10 Austin Stacks 0-17

AUSTIN Stacks and Tousist played out a good sporting game, with Austin Stacks having that little fraction more scoring power as they managed to lead by 0-9 to 0-5. Sean Óg Brosnan, Joe Reidy, and Shane Bastible were the pick of the winners, but in truth this was good football by both sides. Tousist came back midway through the second half with 1-1 to tie up the scoring, but the visitors were able to finish strongly and won out

on a 0-17 to 1-10 scoreline.

Gneeveguilla 1-9 Firies 0-11

GNEEVEGUILLA opened the scoring but Firies took over with points from Dylan O’Callaghan (5), Tomás Scott, and Aaron O’Sullivan, who also had a goal effort brilliantly saved. Gneeveguilla began to get into the game and were quick on the rebound when a shot hit the post to find the net. At half-time Firies led by two points, 0-8 to 1-3.

Firies lost two players to accidental injury early in the second half and it had a major bearing on proceedings, while Gneeveguilla really lifted their own game. They still led by two points at the three quarter stage but their scoring was drying up. Colin Callaghan with a beauty and two points from Seán Burke were all they could muster in the second half, while five points on the trot in the last quarter by Gneeveguilla saw them snatch a very hard-fought win.

DIVISION 5B

Laune Rangers 1-9 Scartaglin 2-8

THIS was definitely a game of two halves, with Scartaglin dominating the first half and both man of the match Eddie Horan and equally impressive Niall Casey both getting in for well-taken goals, Scartaglin had a a commanding 2-7 to 0-4 lead. The second half was a completely different story, with Laune Rangers B having the wind advantage and Scartaglin losing a few players to knocks and bruises.

Bit by bit Laune Rangers, with the Clifford brothers prominent, whittled that big lead down and it made for an enthralling finish, with Scartaglin doing really well to hang on for an important win ahead of their next game against Dr Crokes B side. Best for Scartaglin were Aidan Young and Niall Casey.

Valentia Young Islanders 3-9 Rathmore 2-9

VALENTIA had a tough start, trailing by 1-6 to 0-2 late in the first half before pulling back a point. It would have been worse but for a superb display at full back by Junior Kitt, ably assisted by Adam and Aaron Quigley, as well as a great save by Aaron Goggin. In the second half midfielders Joe and Micheál Lynch really got on top and sparked a Valentia resurgence.

Joe Lynch and Emmett Daly combined to set up Ciarán O’Donoghue for a goal. Micheál Lynch quickly added another to put them in front for the first time and Ben Egan made it 3-6 to 1-8. Seán O’Sullivan, along with fellow subs

Muiris O’Sullivan and Conchubhair Guiney, impressed as he picked off a point, with Muiris O’Sullivan closing out a good win. Emmett Daly was top scorer with 0-7, five from frees.

Sneem/Derrynane 1-8 Dr Crokes 0-4

THE first half was very tightly contested but both sides missed a few chances. Sneem/Derrynane led by 0-3 to 0-2 at the break and could be thankful to outstanding goalkeeper Michael O’Neill in particular, who hit great kick-outs all through and also marshalled his defence superbly.

Veteran Mike Moloney was Dr. Crokes’ most impressive performer, really running the show from midfield, but Sneem/Derrynane gradually got on top and a goal from very impressive substitute Oisín Breen plus a magnificent point from the right wing by Tim Murphy really put them in a commanding position and they ran out comfortable winners.

Finuge 1-9 Glenflesk 2-7

GLENFLESK were put to the pin of their collar to come away from Finuge with a very precious and hard-fought win. They were trailing by three at half-time but really stepped up to the challenge. The likes of David O’Connor, Gary O’Donoghue, and Kieran O’Donoghue drove them on and with Dara Fleming (1-4), Danny Lucey (1-2) and Eoghan Kelly (0-1) getting the vital scores, they managed to win by the slimmest of margins.

It was tough going on Finuge, who played very well themselves and possibly deserved to maybe take something out of the game.
