Students vie for national titles
STUDENTS from Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne will compete for National Titles this week at the National Press Pass and Gaeltacht Junior Achievement awards.
Transition year student, Cian Ó Gallachóir has been shortlisted in the news category of the National Press Pass awards for his report on the lands for sale on the Conor Pass. The final judging and announcement of the winners will take place today.
Cian’s report details various points of view surrounding the sale and potential purchasers, which include the Irish State. His story was short listed out of entries from over 300 schools nationwide.
Meanwhile the Pobalscoil has two student projects representing Munster at the national finals of the Údarás na Gaeltachta - Clár na gComhlachtaí contest for young entrepreneurs, to be held over two days today and tomorrow.
The first project is by Ciara Ní Chinnéide, Hayley Ní Fhlaithearta and Ellie de hÓra, who have come up with the idea of introducing a competitive element to the otherwise tedious process of learning irregular Spanish verbs.
A second Pobalscoil company, named Glan go Glas formed by Katie Ní Éanacháin, Cian Ó Gallchobhair, Kate Ní Shúilleabháin, Ríona Ni Ghealbháin and Oisin Ó Dubha, provides recycled, natural and eco-friendly cleaning solutions that reduce waste and respond to the growing demand for environmentally responsible household cleaning products.
More than 500 Transition Year students from Gaeltacht regions nationwide competed in the Clár na gComhlachtaí competition, which is run as a partnership between Údarás na Gaeltachta and Junior Achievement Ireland (JAI).
