-

THE girls football competition also comprised of nine teams with three groups of three, and again the standard of play in this competition all through the morning was absolutely exceptional with all district champions giving it their best and hoping to make it through to this year’s semi finals.

After the round robin series of games in Austin Stack Park, Spa NS and Currow NS topped their respective groups in their crossover quarter-final games Spa comfortably accounted for St. Finian’s Waterville while Currow NS were pushed all the way by a talented Castledrum NS team with only a point separating the teams at the end of a top class encounter.

Spa NS defeated last year’s champions Scoil Eoin Balloonagh in their semi-final while Currow accounted for neighbours Firies NS.

Two teams had come through undefeated following some brilliant football matches. The encounter between Spa and Currow left everyone anticipating an evenly matched final. Currow displayed all their agility, skill, movement, understanding and excellent team play as they emerged victorious. They raced into an early lead and although Spa fought their way back into the game in the second half scoring two early goals the response was swift from Currow.

Spa came back with two more goals, but again Currow went down the field and finished strongly to claim the Allianz Cumann Na mBunscol INTO Mini Sevens title.
