Kerry’s Kate Dineen to join Davie Furey for St John’s gig

IF you’re in and around the Listowel area next Friday, May 10, then make sure to grab yourself a ticket to see Kerry’s own singer and songwriter Kate Dineen in action as she opens for Davie Furey who is on a nationwide tour of Ireland to promote his new album, ‘Glimpses of the Truth’.

The album was released back in March of this year and is comprised of nine original songs; of these nine new tracks on the album, Stargazer, Downtown Parade and History have all reached number one as singles on the Irish Singer-Songwriter and Rock download charts.

The upcoming Listowel show will be the first time that Davie will have played St John’s Theatre and he told The Kerryman this week that he has heard only good things about St John’s as a venue and that he is excited and looking to seeing it for himself and ticking it off his bucket list.

Davie’s own Kerry connections are strong with daughter, Aisling, having been born in Tralee while Aisling’s mother is a native of Ballyheigue.

“I love albums, I’ve always loved albums. The way the songs are connected and tell a story has fascinated me for years. Glimpses of the Truth tells a story, what that story is depends on the listener,” he said speaking about the new album.

“What the songs mean to me is really not important and doesn’t matter. What really matters is the way the listener connects with the songs, the way the songs might weave their way into the listeners’ heart and become part of their life,” he continued.

As for Katie, a native of The Spa, she is certainly no stranger to the Listowel venue having played there a few times now over the years but she told The Kerryman this week that she reckons that it has been over a year since she last graced the stage there and so she is excited to end that drought on May 10.

It’s been an exciting year to date for Katie who released her latest single ‘Doomscrolling’ back in January, the reaction to which she said on Tuesday has been very good.

“It’s been really positive. I recorded it about two years after the last EP so it’s been sort of another step up for me and it’s something a little bit different, a little bit louder so yeah, I’m delighted with the response to it so far,” said Katie.
