ELECTIONS

The local and European elections will be taking place on June 7 and while the main focus of interest for us will be in the Listowel Electoral Area this year there will be added interest for us in the Kenmare Electoral Area. Here 16 candidates will be contesting 6 seats among them Catherina O’Sullivan standing on behalf of Aontú. Catherina is the wife of Michael O’Sullivan formerly of Chapel Street, Tarbert and both now resident in Killorglin. Catherina is the mother of 6 children and is a clinical Nurse Manager specialising in mental health. She says her journey into politics was as a result of the recent referendum where she led the Kerry group advocating for a No/No vote on behalf of the Aontú party. We wish her well in her endeavours.

TIDY TOWNS

Tarbert Development Association has entered Tarbert for the 2024 Tidy Towns Competition which takes place over the months of June, July and August. Last year Tarbert increased its marks by 7 over the 2022 adjudication. Tarbert was 3rd. out of all centres in Kerry competing in Category B population category after Sneem and Glenbeigh. Tarbert gained one mark in each out of 7 of the 8 categories. With the Streetscape Enhancement painting now complete the village looks attractive and appealing and it is hoped there will be an added focus on litter and general clean ups. The adjudicator noted ‘ Keep up the excellent work. Tarbert Tidy Towns is a positive force in the community, making it a vibrant place to live in and visit’ end of quote. See the Tidy Towns window for more information and we should always remember that Tidy Towns is for everybody for 365 days of the year and not just for one day.
