Big charity night of boxing for little Axel Horgan
Fighters are being sought for the Rumble in Listowel at the Community Centre in September
BRAVE little Listowel lad Axel Horgan is the boy of the hour at the Community Centre come September in a big night of charity boxing to help him in his fight against rare disease.
The handsome little two-year-old suffers from Cloves Syndrome, an extremely rare congenital condition affecting only 200 worldwide.
It presented only after his birth at University Hospital Kerry in May of 2022 when the newborn was diagnosed with a range of abnormalities as well as fetal macrosomia, hypoglycaemia and respiratory sepsis.
Such is the impact of the condition that Axel has weathered a storm of intensive treatments to date, but his story has drawn incredible support from far and wide – including MMA superstar Conor McGregor.
Listowel too has rallied to the Horgan family’s side with the entire community seemingly pledging its support in whatever way possible to the deep gratitude of Axel’s parents Eddie and Sarah.
Now, as the little lad faces continued intensive treatment the community is pulling out all the stops for a massive night of sporting fun and fundraising.
The Rumble in Listowel is set to explode onto the ring in the Community Centre on September 7 next in an event being run in conjunction with both the Community Centre and the local Trojan Boxing Club.
However, fighters are needed to step up for Axel on the night with the call now going out through town as more and more step forward.
They’re set for an eight-week long round of intensive training to get them fighting fit and prepped to weather and land the key knocks.
It will see multiple matches of three round duration taking place amid what will no doubt be a massive spectatorship – as Listowel prepares to come out in force the brave little fighter.
