Foilmore man’s 10th fundraiser for CUH

- BRENDAN MCCARTHY

A FOILMORE man is this year marking a decade of fund-raising for vital Oncology, Neurology and Cystic Fibrosis services at Cork University Hospital (CUH).

John Garvey will host his annual fundraising dance in the Ring of Kerry Hotel in Cahersiveen – where the O’Sullivan family kindly donates the premises free of charge – on Sunday, January 6. With great help from family and friends, John’s dedication to supporting CUH has seen him raise an incredible €87,465 in the last nine years and the next dance, the tenth, will see his fundraising move closer to the €100,000 mark.

Music on the night will be by the ever-popular Peter Lane and Blackwater Sound and there will be spot prizes galore raffled on the night.

John told The Kerryman recently that the tremendous work of the staff at CUH, which he witnessed firsthand, convinced him to raise money for their Oncology, Neurology and Cystic Fibrosis departments.

“Two members of my family were in the hospital and that’s why I got involved,” he explained. “They’re fine now, thanks be to God. We were very thankful to the people in the hospital for what they did.”

John also expressed his gratitude to the O’Sullivan family and their staff at the Ring of Kerry Hotel.

“They are giving us the room again free of charge. They are very good, in fairness to them,” he said.

Tickets will be on sale through John, who tours the county over Christmas selling the tickets, and at events in towns and villages across the county this week.
