A Kingdom goes to battle
WHITE Collar boxing comes to the INEC on this coming Saturday when the Kerry GAA fundraising event takes centre stage.
At the time of going to press, all matchups have not been decided, but provisional bouts include the meeting of two former Kerry captains in Seamus Moynihan (football) and Liam Boyle (hurling) and the football vs. hurling theme continues with Shane Enright being opposed by Jason Casey, Peter Crowley taking on Darren Wallace, James Walshe in action against Padraig Boyle. Other matchups, for the likes of the Ó Sé brothers, Marc and Tomás will be decided on later in the week.
Doors open at 7pm and admission is by ticket with ticket options are as follows: Reserved Ringside seating €25, General Adult €20, Child €10, Family (2 adult + 2 children) €50. Group option to purchase 10 tickets including one free.
Tickets are on general sale from the clubs throughout the county, Garveys Supervalu Stores countywide and in advance or on the night from the INEC Killarney. There is a special incentive for clubs to sell their ticket allocation with entry into a draw for the following prizes: 1st Prize; Set of adult jerseys; 2nd Prize; Club affiliation fee worth €600 paid; 3rd Prize; Weekend for 2 at a Moran / Bewleys Hotel.
Celebrity pundits will be in attendance, Kerry players will be available for autographs, photos etc. on the night and the event will conclude with a ballad session. AIB Club Semi-finals THE dates and venues are now known for the various AIB All Ireland Club Championship semi-finals. In the Senior championship, Dr Crokes will play Leinster champions Ballymun Kickhams on Saturday, February 16 in Semple Stadium, Thurles at 4pm; Finuge will play Monasterevan of Kildare in the Intermediate championship in the Gaelic Grounds Limerick and Munster Junior champions Kenmare will play Leinster champions Castleknock in Mitchelstown, both of those games on Sunday, January 27 at 2pm. Lotto THE Christmas Lotto Draw was held on Friday 21st - Numbers drawn were 3, 20, 28 and 34. There was no winner of the €20,000 Jackpot.
Winner of the €500 special Christmas Cracker of €500 was Gerry O'Leary of Clogherbrien, Tralee, €100 went to Liam Doherty of Callinafercy and there were three €50 winners, Eamonn O'Sullivan of Castleisland, The Kerry Association Manchester and Jerry Kirby of Kilkenny.

Meet the New Officers IN recent weeks we profiled two of the five newly elected officers to County Committee and this week we profile two more: Munster Council Delegate: Joe Crowley (Laune Rangers). One of two Munster Council delegates elected at Convention, Christy Killeen being the other, Joe comes from a family with a long tradition of involvement in the GAA and with Laune Rangers, indeed his father was a former president of the club, while his son Peter continues the tradition with Kerry seniors.
Having played for fourteen years with the Rangers, Joe is well known in the locality for his Friday night club fundraising dances. He served as chairman of the club for a seven year period and oversaw the provision of new stand, pavilion, dressing room and gym facilities.
A man with innovative and fresh ideas, as club delegate to county committee last year he proposed a fair play league for the County Leagues and he then put his money where his mouth was by sponsoring the €1,000 first prize, while he was also involved in the launching of a road safety code for sports clubs of all codes at national level. Hurling Officer: Ger McCarthy (Causeway) Winner of a three way contest for the position at county convention, Ger certainly is well equipped for the post of Hurling Officer.
A member of the all conquering Causeway four ina-row squad 1979 - 1982, Ger has been involved with his club for over thirty five years. On the administrative side he served as chairman of the club, as well as north Kerry hurling and county delegate.
However, he is probably best known for his involvement with the county hurlers at various levels. He was a selector with the Under 21s in 1996 and progressed to the senior set up as a selector from 1998 to 2000.
More recently, he managed the County minor team from 2008 to 2011 a period that saw great strides made in the grade with the narrow loss by two points to Limerick in the 2010 Munster minor championship being the standout performance. Presentation Night THE presentation night for the Keanes Supervalu Killorglin Minor football leagues will take place in Austin Stack Park on Friday January 11 at 8pm. The following Clubs were successful in 2012: Div 1: John Mitchels; Div 2: Templenoe/Tousist; Div 3A: Na Gaeil/Castlegregory; Div 3B: Beaufort; Div 4: Kenmare/Kilgarvan; Div 5: Keel/Listry; Div 6: St. Senans; Div 7: Cordal/Scartaglin.
The list also includes County Minor Champions St. Brendans, who won the title for the first time since 1953 and they were presented with their medals on Friday night last by county committee chairman Patrick O'Sullivan at a function in the Ballyroe Heights Hotel.
