Nell to be honoured with night of dance

- By MARISA REIDY

THE family of popular Ballyduff woman, Nell Murphy, will mark the first anniversary of her death this weekend with a night of dancing in aid of the Palliative Care Unit at Kerry General Hospital,

Nell died on August 12, 2014 after a short battle with cancer - her death at just ??? years of age leaving her beloved family and the extended community heartbroken.

Nell was a hugely popular figure in her home parish of Rattoo and the wider Ballyduff area, and was particularly well known in GAA circles given her devotion to Ballyduff hurling.

Her second love was dancing, attending dances almost nightly and it was this passion that prompted the fundraiser.

Given her love of dancing, her family decided that there would be no better way to honour her and so came together to organise a fundraising event this Fri- day night, August 7 at McHale’s Stretford End in Causeway.

Nell’s daughter Kathryn explained that as well as raising much needed funds for the Palliative Care Unit in Tralee, it was also a way of bringing family, friends and neighbours together a year after her death,

“We wanted to get everyone together and remember mom and because of her love of dancing we thought this was ideal,” she said. “She absolutely loved to dance and it was a huge part of her life so it seemed like the perfect thing to do.”

Guests will enjoy live music late into the night with Joe Cooke and Southern Beat and there will also be a raffle for some great spot prizes. Admission on the night is €10 and all the funds will go towards the Palliative Care Unit.

“We just want everyone to come along and have a bit of fun while raising some money for the unit at the same time,” Kathryn said.
