The best finish of the day was reserved for the minor boys race with a tremendous battle from the start to finish line between Cromane and Valentia with Cromane eventually taking the honours on the day.
The home club will be delighted as their own crews won four races: under 12, under 14 mixed, under 16 boys and under 18 girls. Portmagee took the honours in the senior men’s race and the ladies of Valentia took the honours in the senior ladies final.
The Seine boat race proved another cracker with Cnuicin taking the honours on the line by a length. Unfortunately the Valentia regatta, which was scheduled for bank holiday Monday, had to be cancelled due to high winds and it will now be rescheduled.
The attention now turns to the One Design boats and on Sunday next, August 9, there is also the no small matter of the County Championship regatta with 18 clubs in the county taking part in the Waterville championship regatta.
The following weekend it’s the big one as Kerry hosts the All-Ireland Coastal Rowing Championships on the very same course and it will the biggest regatta in the country for 2015. There is another huge crowd expected from all over the country.
In the meantime, the focus for this weekend is the county championship regatta which takes place in Waterville on Sunday, August 9, at 12noon sharp. All clubs are asked to be on time as huge numbers are entered.
