SRAITH SINSIR CHIARRAI ROUND 2: PHIARSAIGH NA DROMODA 2.19 ARDFERT 2.12 The change in timing by the County Board of the second round game proved challenging for both teams as players had previous commitments for the weekend. However, the loss in Keel by the narrowest of margins two weeks previously seemed to give the Pearses the impetus they needed to up their game. Their first half performance against Keel was a great display of what this team is capable of. The game was played in very go conditions with a slight breeze favouring the dressing room goal. The first score was from free taker Críostóir Ó Faircheallaigh in the fifth minute quickly followed by a point from the solid mid-fielder Dominic Ó Súilleabháin. A unified performance from Dromid’s forwards put scores on the board in quick succession. Cathal Ó Nolán to the fore with a goals in the first half. The visitors were certainly outclassed in the first half as they were unable to penetrate a solid Pearses defence led by captain Padraig J. Ó Súilleabháin. Two points from frees and two points from Daithi Griffin and Darren Wallace was their result for the first thirty minutes of play. The half time score was Dromid’s 1.12 to Ardfert 0.04. Dromid started the second half as they finished the first with another goal this time by Niall O’Sé. It was obvious that Stephen Wallace’s charges would change tack, but it wasn’t until he put himself on the field of play that the tides began to turn. He was instrumental in their two goals in the second half and it was no longer a one-sided match. Well taken points from Bobby Reagan and Eoghan Courtney contributed to their claw-back on the scoreboard. However, Dilan Ó Donnchú’s pace was no match for the vistors backline and the hosts continued to add to their tally of points throughout the second half. The final score was Piarsaigh na Dromoda 2.19 to Ardfert 2.12. The game was refereed by Peter Lyons. Piarsaigh na Dromoda : Donal Ó Curráin, Donal M.
