The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Sun shines on Dr Croke’s day for young Amy
EVERYTHING fell in to place for Dr Croke’s fundraising cycle at the weekend.
The club organised the cycle in aid of 10-year-old supporter Amy O’Connor, to assist her and her family in her battle against cancer.
To everyone’s delight, Amy herself was present on Sunday for the superbly attended event.
John McEnenery was one person involved in organising the cycle, and he told The Kerryman that the day couldn’t have gone better.
“It was a lovely day out, particularly for families,” he said.
“The cycle took in Muckross and Dinis, and we had around 120 people taking part, many of whom were kids and parents.
“After cycling along the lovely route for over an hour, we stopped and relaxed at Dinnis Cottage. The good weather really helped the occasion. Between that and all the great activities we had prepare, it proved a lovely day for everyone involved.”
It was back to the club grounds then for a barbecue, which was also attracted an excellent attendance.
“We’d like to thank everyone who took part in the day’s events, as well as everyone who helped out,” John said.
“It was a big bonus to have Amy and her family there on the day, and we were all thrilled with how many people got involved.
“I’m delighted to say we raised upwards of €5,000, and it’s going to a very worthy cause,” he added.
