Be wild and wise when it comes to summer flowers…

“I know a bank where the wild thyme blows, where oxlips and the nodding violet grows, quite over-canopied with luscious woodbine, with sweet musk-roses and with eglantine.”

WILLIAM Shakespeare certainly had it right when it came to the glorious presence of summer flowers and how they give even the heaviest hearts a lift. The good news is you’re getting married in summer which means the rich and beautiful bounty of wild flowers that surround you must be factored into your wedding plans.

Having a ‘natural feel’ to a wedding is always a good idea and nothing is more natural in summer than wildflowers which means it’s time to get creative. You can either talk to your florist about sourcing wildflowers, or you can do it yourself. However, a word of caution is required here: most of us spot these attractive summer flowers on the roadside, but under no circumstances should you take the risk of wandering around a busy road where traffic is a danger. It’s not worth it. Instead, try sourcing areas where wildflowers grow and have someone pick them for you on the morning of the wedding.

There is so much you can do with summer’s bounty on your wedding day from fancy floral headpieces, old style bouquets and attractive arrangements for flower girls that will leave them looking as though they’ve just emerged from an ancient woodland.

We’re all meant to be creative when it comes to summer flowers: bobbing daisies, bright firecrackers, delicate bluebells, leaning foxgloves, scented woodbine and wild roses are just some of the free flowers summer will make available to you on your wedding day. So, be wild and wise when it comes to flowers as summer comes but once a year.
