The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Is the rustic wedding setting a growing trend?
MORE and more couples are now looking for the ‘wow factor’ when it comes to their wedding. This doesn’t mean you need to hire a space ship to woo guests or have white doves link your name in a daisy chain in the sky to impress people! Far from it. The latest trend to emerge is ‘the rustic’ feel which, as the name suggests, is a throwback to less ostentatious surroundings. Now don’t panic, if properly planned your guests will still get to enjoy all the comforts of a wedding day, such as fine food and comfortable facilities.
But why not try and twin the convenient with the unconventional? Most hotels have surrounding grounds where gazebos can be set up. A few bales of stray, some colourful buntings, a few candles in glass jars and hey presto, you have yourself a wonderful outdoor summer retreat where guests can enjoy the kind of endless summer evenings we all should experience at least once in a lifetime.
You can also add a folksy theme with lots of wild flowers and music. This theme is even more appealing for couples with their hearts set on secular style weddings. But with proper planning you can easily incorporate ‘the rustic’ into mainstream wedding receptions too by consulting with your host who will only be too happy to help.
Often when people talk about a ‘stand out’ wedding it gets totally misinterpreted as something extravagant and expensive. This is far from the truth. Summer is the only time of year when we get one shot at arranging that rustic, bespoke wedding; the kind that creates a romantic and hazy summer feel that keeps the candle of memory burning a lifetime. It’s worth having a think about it.
