Causeway honours young talents
THE hardworking and talented students at Causeway Comprehensive saw their achievements recognised at the school’s annual awards ceremony this past week, where they were joined by the guest of honour on the night, ASPEN Grove CEO Sean Ryan.
Mt Ryan was certainly kept on his toes throughout the night as he helped to present over 140 different awards on the night to students who had notched a number of great achievements over the course of the academic year.
On an evening described by teacher and organiser of the night Tim Leahy as the “culmination of the hard work and dedication of the students of the Comprehensive,” there were smiles all around as the students beamed with pride as they posed for countless photographs with their well deserved awards.
The night saw Niamh Brouder receiving the award for ‘Outstanding Student of the year in Leaving Certificate’ while Katelyn Diggins received the same honour in the Junior Cycle.
Megan Lynch received the Canon Willie O’Connor award for receiving the highest result in Irish in Leaving Certificate 2016 while Laura O’Sullivan and Killian Horgan received the John O’Regan award for achieving outstanding results in the Leaving Certificate overall.
Hannah Grace won the Lucille O’Sullivan award for overcoming many challenges in her six years of school while Emma Lawlor won the Spirit of the School award in memory of the late Eileen Sheehan whose family has made a major contribution to the school.
Other awards presented on the night included sports awards, attendance awards and diligence and achievement awards.
A special award was presented to Nathan Dineen and Shane McElligott who accomplished the incredible achievment of full attendance in their five years at the school.
