Divide those DIY jobs between ‘sunny’ and ‘rainy’ days

-

IT doesn’t take a genius to know there are certain DIY jobs you simply cannot do when the heavens open. But seeing as it’s the Irish climate we’re referring to here, it might be worth enacting a little forward planning.

We’ve all heard how Irish summers have a tendency to produce the four seasons in not just one day, but one hour! With that in mind, when it comes to DIY jobs it’s a good idea to devise a ‘rainy day’ and ‘sunny day’ checklist.

All you need to do is make a list of all those outdoor jobs that need doing and ensure when the weather is favourable that you can hit the ground running. Conversely, make a check list of all indoor DIY chores and be ready for when it rains.

This might all sound so simple that it scarcely even merits a mention. But let’s be honest, how many times have you found yourself painting the spare room on a day when the mercury is bubbling outside?

Or found yourself standing at the backdoor, hedge cutters in hand, waiting for the rain to stop? It has happened to all of us at some point which is why preparing two lists that are weather dependant makes sense.

Moreover, usually when the weather breaks it tends to stay fixed in a period of low pressure for several days.

This time should not be spent bemoaning the fact you can’t get outside to paint the fencing or clean the gutters. Instead, finish off those niggly indoor DIY jobs.

Proper planning is the surest way to completing any job on time and stress free. Summer is the best time of year so use the time wisely and strategically when it comes to DIY.

So remember: rainy days are for decorating the spare room and hanging those lovely pictures, while sunny days are for cleaning out the shed and painting the front gate. It’s simple but true!
