Difficult start for West Kerry in Gallarus

- WEST KERRY GAA Breandán Fitzgerald

WEST Kerry were home to Feale Rangers in sunny but windy Gallarus on Sunday afternoon and it was the visitors who went home smiling after an opening win in the County SFC, West Kerry 0-12 to 1-13 Feale Rangers. West Kerry now play the losers of the Austin Stacks and St Kierans replay, which is on next Saturday at 6.30pm in Scartaglin.

Paul Quinn will have some valuable extra time to prepare his West Kerry side prior to this game and he will be aiming to mould his players into a team that can progress through to Round 3 of the Championship.

This West Kerry side has potential and should the players grasp the opportunity presented to them they can go far. No date or venue has been selected for the West Kerry game. The West Kerry Board wish West Kerry and Dingle the very best of luck.

Dingle, meanwhile, made the long trip to Templenoe last Saturday all the more worthwhile with an impressive second half performance that saw them claim a first round win in the Garvey’s SuperValu County SFC, Kenmare District Board 2-4 to Dingle 3-16. Dingle now will play Kerins O’Rahilly’s this Sunday at 2.30pm in Páirc an Ághasaigh, Dingle in the second round.

Dingle’s Paul Fitzmaurice and Seamus O’Dowd will be aiming to tighten up their defence to stop them leaking goals and to deliver the ball direct and with speed into their forwards if they want to progress through to the quarter-finals.

This has the makings of a wonderful game of football between two club sides with a lot of potential. Make sure to get yourself to Páirc an Ághasaigh next Sunday for Round 2 of the Championship between Dingle and Kerins O’Rahilly’s.
