JOHN MURPHY UNDER 12 CUP FINAL

Park A 2 Killorglin 1 WITH Killorglin already through to the John Murphy Under 12 Cup final St Brendan’s Park joined them following a 3-1 mid-week win over Inter Kenmare. Darragh Cunnane, Ewan O’Sullivan and Odhran Ferris got the goal to see the Tralee side into the decider.

And in the decider in Mounthawk on Saturday it was the Park that opened the brightest, but could not find that early breakthrough. That went to the Cup holders Killorglin when Tim Mangan got on the end of a good move to put his side ahead in the sixth minute.

The Park tried hard to get level, but found the Killorglin defence in good form and when keeper Dara Crosby made a great save from Jamie O’Shea, Killorglin stayed ahead at the half.

Early in the second half Park keeper Richie Healy had to be alert to stop his side going further behind before things turned in the Park’s favour.

After sustained pressure The Park forced two corners and from the second one Odhran Ferris was the quickest to react following a great Crosby save and he levelled matters.

The Parked went looking for a winner and Ray McGrath forced Crosby into another save before the decisive late winner. McGrath perfectly hit corner was headed home by Darragh Cunnane with less than three minutes remaining to ensure the Park win the John Murphy Cup for 2016/17.

Under 12 Shield

NORTH Kerry side LB Rovers progress continues as they reached the shield final.

However, despite a great effort, particularly by keeper Michael Whelan, their more experience opponents Killarney Athletic gradually took control.

Josh Coffey got their first before and own goal made it 2-0.

Any hope of a comeback was dashed when Man of the Match Alex Hennigan got his first goal. He added two more to complete a hat trick as the John Murphy Shield headed for Woodlawn.
