Girl competitio­ns well underway in Cumann na mBunscol

THE Allianz Cumann na mBunscol girls’ football competitio­ns are well underway and a full program of games has been completed in each district. The competitio­ns cater for all schools from 2-Teacher rural schools to the large urban town schools. In the 2-Teacher category the following schools have qualified from their respective districts for the county quarter finals. Meentogues from East Kerry, Bonane from Kenmare District, Scoil a Ghleanna,Baile An Sceilg, South Kerry, Dromnacurr­a, North Kerry, Scoil an Ghleanna, Ciarraí Thiar, Knockaclar­ig, Castleisla­nd District and Mid Kerry will be represente­d by either Boheshill or Ballifinna­ne. The quarter-final draw will be made later on this week.

In the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol 3-Teacher quarter-finals Moyvane will face Knocknagas­hel on this Thursday in Duagh. Castledrum will take on South Kerry champions Foilemore while in the first semi-final Knockanes and Scoil Réalt na Mara Tousist will do battle for a place in this years final.

In the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol 4/5 teacher competitio­n has reached quarter-final stage, and 2016 champions St. Finian’s, Waterville are hoping to retain their title, however they will face stiff opposition with the standard of football rising each year.

The line up for the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol 4/5 teacher girls’ quarter-finals is as follows: St Finian’s NS V Kenmare winners Gneeveguil­la NS V Mid Kerry Lisselton NS V Scartaglen NS Castlegreg­ory NS V St Brendan’s winners. All quarter-finals will be played this week and semi-final draw will be made on Friday.

The Allianz Cumann na mBunscol 6/8 Teacher and Urban Leagues continue this week and following this round of the league games we should have a clearer picture of the respective schools standing on the league tables. All Allianz Cumann na mBunscol girls’ finals will be played before the bank Holiday weekend in June. The Allianz Cumann na mBunscol hurling leagues are also in full swing with the second round games scheduled for this week for all school categories.

The first of the Primary Game Allianz Cumann na mBunscol county trials goes ahead this Thursday at 5pm in Cahersalee. The best of luck to all boys and girls.

Finally the final of the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Quiz commences at 7.30pm in the Meadowland­s Hotels with schools from all districts competing.
