IT Tralee has signed a new agreement which will see the Kerry college enter a co-operative arrangement with the Sacred Heart University in Connecticut.

The partnership deal was sealed last month when ITT President Dr Oliver Murphy and SHU Vice President for Academic Affairs Ruperndra Paliwali signed a memorandum of understanding to copper-fasten the relationship between the two institutions.

ITT and SHU will now co-operate in a range of areas including nursing; tourism business and hospitality management; digital media and communications; marine and coastal science and engineering.

As well as operating new student and faculty exchange programmes the partnership will also see the colleges share their expertises and curriculum.

Students from the SHU will also be able to avail of placements in hotels and tourist businesses around Kerry while SHU science students will have access to the Kerry Sports Academy and course operated from that centre.

ITT has committed to offering two scholarships for SHU graduates to pursue a Research Masters in Biology starting in Fall of 2018. SHU is offering two ITT nursing students scholarships to complete SHU’s Doctor of Nursing Practice Program.

SHU is also in the closing stages purchasing the former Christian Brothers School in Dingle which it plans to use as a secondary campus providing courses on tourism; marine science; sports marketing and celtic history.

“The IT Tralee and SHU have established a strong and mutually beneficial relationship over recent years. Both organisations have identified a number of key strategic projects which we will progress over the coming months,” Dr Murphy said.

The advancement of the SHU campus in Dingle is a welcome development, which will greatly benefit the region and we look forward to working with SHU as they progress their ambitious plans,” said Dr Murphy.
