- By FERGUS DENNEHY

THE new Tralee based drama group ‘Act Up’ are getting set to stage their first ever showcase night this coming Wednesday night, May 24.

The night will take the form of a showcase event and will see a number of the groups actors, many of whom have never acted in public before, performing a number of monologues from famous films including ‘The Addams Family’, ‘The Poltergeist’, ‘Any Given Sunday’ and ‘The Accused’.

The amateur drama group, which has only been existence since January, is under the tutelage of Tralee actor, Tim Landers who says that he is delighted with the progress that the amateur acts have made since starting out.

“The group we have here are absolutely fantastic and they’ve come on leaps and bounds since we started back in January; they’ve been practising vocal warm ups, improvisation, camera work, monologues and much more,” he said, talking to The Kerryman.

“There’s a few nerves of course but they’ve been working really hard and we’re just now looking forward to a great night,” he finished.

The night will start in The Abbey Inn in Tralee at 9pm on Wednesday May 24 and will approximately run for two hours - there will be an interval on the night aswell; entry on the night is set at €5.

Some of the language will not be suitable for children.
