Eirgrid gives Tarbert €30,000
TARBERT got a welcome donation from electricity transmission company Eirgrid in the form of a cheque for €30,000 - money to be used in improving the appearance of the town.
It was a donation made by Eirgrid under its Community Fund following recent works in Tarbert it carried out.
Treasurer of Tar bert Development AssociationSuzanne Harrison was presented with the cheque by David Martin and Sean Kenny of EirGrid.
The money is to go towards improving the town’s streetscape following recent works by EirGrid by way of an acknowledgement of the disruption the works caused during the construction of the new electricity substation at Kilpadogue, near Tarbert.
The €30,000 will go towards funding the undergrounding of overhead utility wires in the town. Overhead wires on Chapel Street, the Square and Main Street will be placed in underground ducts.
Chairperson of Tarbert Development Association Joan Murphy said: “Visually, the funding will result in a huge improvement to the streetscape and remove the clutter of wires that spoils our town at present.
“Tarbert is on the Wild Atlantic Way and we strive to make the place more attractive to locals and visitors by carrying out works that improve the visual aspect of the area. Our sincere gratitude goes to EirGrid for supporting this very worthwhile project.”
The work is part of the Urban Design Framework for Tarbert that was prepared on behalf of the association to help guide the future sustainable development of the town.
