-

SINCERE condolences are offered to Áine and Cathal Cusack and family of Farranreigh on the recent deaths in close proximity of Áine’s parents Jack and Margaret O’Donoghue of Stillorgan, Dublin. Margaret’s death took place on April 18, with Jack’s passing occurring on May 4.

Jack O’Donoghue was originally of Bridge Street in Cahirsiveen, and was a retired Lieutenant-Colonel of the Irish Army. He served in the Suez Canal between (1969-71) and also in Cyprus, Athlone and the Curragh.

He completed his army days as the OC of An Chead Cathalán or first Battalion in Renmore, County Galway. His father was Denis O’Donoghue, who was a schoolmaster in Coonanna and his mother was Teresa Moriarty of Inch.

Jack was born in Inch and the family had the Post Office there. Seana chnoc near Waterville was the original home of the O’Donoghues.

The late Jack O’Donoghue was a frequent visitor to his daughter Áine and family of Valentia. He attended the monthly prayer meetings in Cahirsiveen and his good and jovial company will be sadly missed in social outlets here.

His late wife was the former Margaret Lee of Killanin, Connemara. She taught in Athlone RTC and had a keen interest in prayer dedication. Her parents were both school teachers and her father Gearóid O’Laoi was a well known musician.

Sincere sympathy is expressed to their daughters Maria, Cliodhna,Gairine, Áine and Mairéad, sons Donncha and John, thirteen grandchildren and all concerned.
