Kilcow Harry goes fastest on Fine Gael fundraisin­g night

SATURDAY night’s action was an all-sponsored card and acted as a fundraiser for the North Kerry / Listowel District Fine Gael party. A large crowd enjoyed an all graded card which saw Kilcow Harry post the quickest time of the night, 29.19, in an A4 event over the standard trip.

Drawn in Trap 6, the Tim and Harry Crowley owned runner literally pinged the leads at trap rise and went down to the opening bend in a very fast 3.07 split. He had the field well strung out down the back straight however he only ever held a lead of 1 ½ lengths despite his blistering early pace. He raced wide off the closing bends and Tim Rangers came from way off the pace to eat up ground up the inside on the run home. However the winner just about done enough to hold on for victory and held on for half a length victory with Spirit Romeo completing the placing’s 2 ½ lengths further back in third.

There were four races ran over the sprint course with the fastest time over the 325 yard trip coming in Race 2 with Patrick Ferris produced the coursing bred Ramona Gaisce to land the spoils in 17.98. The 3/1 priced daughter of Tomas the Tank broke fast from trap 2 and made the running throughout to lead home the evens favourite Coolagowan Octane by four lengths.

Jeffs Sam continued his recent run of good form when he made it three wins from his last three stars to score the final race of the night for James and Tony Griffin.

An A4 contest over the standard trip, the local runner hit the ground running from trap 4 and led throughout to record a winning time of 29.46. Gotoon Fred ran on for second 2 lengths back while the evens favourite Millridge Magic disappoint­ed back in third.

Other winners on the night included Kilcurra June 29.88, Carolina Whisper 29.82, Villa Dawn 18.24, Knocknacre­e lady 29.62, Makaylas Mood 18.18, Leaha Laurel 18.07, Stargazer Lily 29.48.

SATURDAY MORNING

SATURDAY’S action got underway with the SIS morning session and in all there was 18 races ran at the venue over the 2 cards. The morning session is proving extremely popular throughout Ireland and the UK and the local owners are reaping the benefits with the increase in prize money. The Millridge prefix has featured prominentl­y amongst the winners since the meetings inception and Donal G O’Mahoney was back in the winner’s enclosure last Saturday morning as Millridge Jodi proved best in Race 6 which was an A4 contest over the standard trip. The Millstreet owned runner led throughout the contest and crossed the line in 29.42 at odds of 3/1.

The following race saw Shronedrau­gh Dan return to winning ways for Headford’s Tim Kelly as he claimed another victory for the early pacers. The 5/2 shot made all to pass the line in 29.21 and land the spoils for favourite backers. Baltovin Olly held claim to being the only dog to break the 29 second barrier for the day when winning an A2 contest for Thomas Regan in 28.99. The winner swooped late to collar Send It Puffin on the line and record a 7th victory career win at odds of 9/2.

The card was completed with wins for Cyprus Sean 29.56, Blue Slip 29.27, Mohane Sparkey 29.17, Devon Gunnar 29.44, Leigh Florence 29.45.
