-

GARDAÍ in Tralee have launched an investigation after a man was stabbed in an estate in the town as he made his way home on Friday evening.

The incident occurred in the Shanakill area of Tralee at approximately 7.30pm on Friday evening.

The victim of the attack was walking through a laneway in an area towards the rear of Shanakill estate when he was stopped and set upon by a man who demanded that he hand over his wallet.

When the victim refused he was punched. The attacker then produced a knife and stabbed the man. The injured man was treated for his wounds at University Hospital Kerry but gardaí said his injuries were not serious.

Gardaí are examining CCTV footage from the area in a bid to identify the attacker who was wearing a black hooded top and multi coloured scarf. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Tralee Garda Station.
