Kilflynn kids welcome some Garda guests
STUDENTS of St Teresa’s National School, Kilflynn had two very special visitors during the week. Garda O’Mahoney and Garda Moriarty visited the 5th and 6th class boys and girls as part of their community services and took the time to discuss many important issues with the students.
The Gardaí explained to the kids the importance of personal safety and being safe online.
“The kids were delighted the Gardaí visit the school” Ide from St Teresa’s National School told The Kerryman. “They listened very closely to what the Gardaí were explaining to them.” She continued. And the fun doesn’t stop there. The Gardaí will be returning to the school sometime in June to talk the classes on a bicycle ride. They will first explain to the kids bicycle safety and the measure one can take to try and avoid an accident. Then the kids will be able to put these skills into practice with the Gardaí right by their sides to help them.
One 5 th class student had a lot to say on what he thought of the visit. Eoin Griffin said:
“The day that Garda Aidan O Mahony and Garda Seamus Moriarty came to our school was amazing. My class and I were astounded by their really cool uniforms (I want one for myself) and what they had to say. It was really nice how caring and kind they were.
“They were talking to us about internet safety which I found very informative and interesting. They also told us about the daily life of the Gardai.
“Then they got to the best bit - my class are going on a cycle with Aidan and Seamus. I wonder do Gardaí arrest children for careless bike riding? Oh well guess we will have to find out! If I ever became a Garda trying to calm down the prisoners would not be their only task, I might have to be calmed down too.
“I think learning about the outside world in school is very important and we thank our principal Ms Ide Brosnan, our teacher Ms Alana Moriarty and of course we thank Aidan and Seamus for making it one of the best days ever!”
