Looking good for parade

-

WITH St Patrick’s Day just around the corner this year’s Killarney parade will be extra special to celebrate the local community and the town’s volunteers. The theme of this year’s parade is ‘Killarney You’re Looking Good - a celebration of 60 years of Tidy Towns competition’. Killarney has a host of gold medals for its participation in the National Tidy Towns competition and won the overall award in 2011, success that’s very much down to the volunteers who help ensure the town looks its best. Therefore, this year’s festival and parade will celebrate the community and the diversity of work they do. Voluntary Chairperson of the St Patrick’s day committee, Paul Sherry, says this year more than ever it is important that the local community becomes involved in the parade. “We are calling on all clubs, associations, business and voluntary groups to get your thinking caps on, open your minds and get the creative juices flowing. You have heard it a million times and more, ‘there is no place like Killarney’, so lets illustrate this to the world and join us on St Patricks Day.” As in previous years the progressive committee will be ‘Greening Killarney’ with a plethora of landmarks going green for the weekend and the public will have the final say on the most attractive ‘Greened’ building or landmark. The St Patrick’s Day parade starts at 2pm from Mission Road, taking in East Avenue, College Street, Plunkett Street, Main Street, New Street and finishing at Beech Road car park.
