Austin Stacks win McNamee award for ‘Stacks 100’

-

AUSTIN Stacks GAA Club chairman Liam Lynch has described as “the icing on the cake” the club’s GAA McNamee award for their ‘Stacks 100’ project, which celebrates the club’s centenary.

The Tralee club has been announced as the winner in the Best New Digital Initiative category of the awards, which recognise annually outstanding contributions made by individuals and GAA units in the area of media and communications.

At the beginning of 2017 – the club’s centenary year 1917-2017 – website called ‘Stacks 100’ (www.stacks100.ie) was commissioned and club members were encouraged to submit their old photographs, audio clips and video footage, including clips of some of the clubs past achievements, interviews with former players, etc. The 100 year club history was brought right up to date with interviews from current club executive members and video footage from some of the 2017 events.

“I approached Rory Kirby in late 2016 mindful that our centenary year was approaching. We needed to have an audio-visual and digital offering to mark our centenary,” Mr Lynch said.

“Rory and I came up with around sixty different types of content from podcasts to old footage, some of which had been lost and needed to be retrieved. The beauty of ‘Stacks 100’ is that while it marks the last 100-years, it can also be added to as time goes by,” he said.

Austin Stacks will receive their McNamee award on Thursday, March 29 in Croke Park. This is the second McNamee award for the club, having previously won ‘Best Club Project’ award for ‘Rockumentary’ in 2014.
