Learn about benefits of MyGov registration
A National Jobs Week disability fair taking place in Listowel on Thursday will focus mainly on MyGov registration.
Being held at the Seanchai Centre from 10am to mid-day, MyGovID is a secure online identity verification service that the Department of Social Protection (DEASP) carries out on behalf of bodies providing public services online.
In order to use this service, you must first register with MyGovID. The registration requirements are: an email address as a username, a mobile phone number, and an alternate email address for use in account recovery (in case you forget your password and no longer have access to your mobile phone number).
Once you have registered in this way, you will have a basic MyGovID account.
Each body providing public services online sets the level of identity verification required for a particular service offered. Some services will be available at a basic MyGovID account level, but higher value services will require a verified account.
Services currently available to holders of verified accounts include: Jobseekers Benefit claims, Maternity Benefit claims, Paternity Benefit claims and Revenue accounts.
Proposed future services to holders of verified accounts include school transport appeals, checking eligibility for treatment benefits, passport online renewal and access to the driver theory test, among others.
The MyGovID service is being made available for use by all Government Departments and over time the number of Government service providers offering services using MyGovID will increase. As a result, these Government Departments will have shared access to and use of your identity information to make it easier for you to use the full range of Government services.
However, your personal service data is protected and the agencies will not be able to use MyGovID to access each other’s personal customer service information.
Following the disability fair in Listowel on Thursday, March 8, there are further MyGov registration events planned for Killarney on March 13 and Cahirciveen on March 21, at the Intreo offices on both occasions.
