Pres­i­dent to ad­dress Fórsa con­fer­ence

PRES­I­DENT Michael D Hig­gins will to­day ad­dress the first ever Fórsa na­tional del­e­gate con­fer­ence at the INEC, Kil­lar­ney, with the con­fer­ence set to run un­til this Fri­day evening.

Fórsa’s joint Pres­i­dents ad­dress the con­fer­ence at 7.20pm be­fore mak­ing way for Pres­i­dent Hig­gins, who is due to speak from 7.40pm.

Some 700 del­e­gates are set to at- tend from Fórsa’s 200-or-so branches, who rep­re­sent work­ers from across the sec­tors in­clud­ing pub­lic ser­vants in health, ed­u­ca­tion, and lo­cal au­thor­i­ties; com­mu­nity and vol­un­tary sec­tor staff; and work­ers from com­mer­cial and non-com­mer­cial semi-state or­gan­i­sa­tions and pri­vate com­pa­nies.

Aside from those open­ing ad­dresses, events will in­clude a de­bate on pay, fo­cus­ing amongst other things on na­tional agree­ments, FEMPI, and the gen­der pay gap from 10.05am to­mor­row.

Also on the agenda will be mo­tions on hous­ing and home­less­ness; so­cial di­a­logue; pen­sions; work­ing times; and Fri­day’s ref­er­en­dum on the eighth amend­ment, and there will also be a de­bate on pri­vati­sa­tion on wa­ter own­er­ship; and col­lec­tive bar­gain­ing.

Fórsa it­self has more than 80,000 mem­bers and was founded fol­low­ing the amalgamation of the Civil Pub­lic and Ser­vices Union (CPSU), IM­PACT, and the Pub­lic Ser­vice Ex­ec­u­tive Union (PSEU).
