President to address Fórsa conference
PRESIDENT Michael D Higgins will today address the first ever Fórsa national delegate conference at the INEC, Killarney, with the conference set to run until this Friday evening.
Fórsa’s joint Presidents address the conference at 7.20pm before making way for President Higgins, who is due to speak from 7.40pm.
Some 700 delegates are set to at- tend from Fórsa’s 200-or-so branches, who represent workers from across the sectors including public servants in health, education, and local authorities; community and voluntary sector staff; and workers from commercial and non-commercial semi-state organisations and private companies.
Aside from those opening addresses, events will include a debate on pay, focusing amongst other things on national agreements, FEMPI, and the gender pay gap from 10.05am tomorrow.
Also on the agenda will be motions on housing and homelessness; social dialogue; pensions; working times; and Friday’s referendum on the eighth amendment, and there will also be a debate on privatisation on water ownership; and collective bargaining.
Fórsa itself has more than 80,000 members and was founded following the amalgamation of the Civil Public and Services Union (CPSU), IMPACT, and the Public Service Executive Union (PSEU).
