Local race back at Ballintaggart
THE highly entertaining and hotly contested local race will feature once again at this year’s Dingle Races, after an absence of almost a decade.
The Rás Corca Dhuibhne will be open to horses whose owner is from the Barony of Corca Dhuibhne, and it will be subject to strict controls and scrutiny. Owners will have to register with Dingle Races by June 22, providing their own name and address, the name of the horse and the horse’s microchip number. Owners can arrange registration by calling 087 9795721.
The decision to reinstate the race was taken, after much discussion, at the recent AGM of the Dingle Races, held in McCarthy’s Bar. At the same meeting newly elected officers were Breandán Fitzgerald (PRO) and Jim McCarthy (Vice Chairperson). Other officer posts on the committee remained ‘as was’ with Paudie Fitzgerald reappointed as Uachtaráin; Mike Sayers, Leas Uachtaráin; Colm Sayers, Chairperson; Denis Murphy, as Secretary; and Daniel McCarthy, Treasurer.
This year’s Dingle Races will be held from Friday to Sunday, August 10 – 12, and with more than 160 horses from all over the country and beyond competing for prizes as high as €6,000 the meeting is set to retain its status as biggest and best horse and pony races in Ireland.
Of course all this takes hard work - and not just for the three days of the racing - and Chairperson Colm Sayers thanked committee members for their time, expertise and devotion to Dingle Races.
