GOLD: Blackwater Women’s Group

The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition) - - KERRY COMMUNITY AWARDS -

This group is going from strength-to-strength. They operate in an area that has been badly affected by depopulation and out-migration, but they continue to be high-spirited, and are very welcoming and inclusive. Founded in 2002, the group provides a board range of activities, and is well-attuned to responding to the needs of women of all ages in its catchment area. The group successfully combines an emphasis on education and self-development with having fun and promoting friendships. The fact that this group has no Community Centre means its work is all the more remarkable with The Blackwater Tavern currently the focal point for its activities.
