SILVER: Biddy’s Day - Imbolc

The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition) - - KERRY COMMUNITY AWARDS -

This group has tapped into something special in the culture and identify of the locality. A voluntary group whose ambition is to save ancient traditions and customs from becoming extinct, they featured on TG4 in February, and members acquitted themselves very well. In 2016 only two biddy groups existed in mid Kerry but as of 2018, this has now increased to 8 active groups with an additional 3 townlands in the process of reforming. This is proof that the group’s primary objective of reviving and preserving this ancient tradition in equal measure is coming to fruition. There is potential for this initiative to spawn other revivals.

Bill Morrell presents a Silver Award to Conor Browne, Thomas O’Sullivan and Cezar Geisler of Biddy’s Day - Imbloc.
