SYMPATHY

Sympathy is extended to the family of the late James Sheahan, Knockeenalicka who died recently. May he rest in peace.

COMHALTAS

A fantastic weekend was had by all at Fleadh Cheoil Chiarraí 2018 held in a sun drenched Milltown. Huge congratulations to all of our members, singers, musicians and dancers who participated in the various array of disciplines and competitions. Of course all of this would not be possible without the dedicated trainers and indeed parents who support our members in no small way.

COMMUNITY GAMES

The curtain came down on the local community games activities for 2018 when the County Athletics finals were held at An Riocht track Castleisland on Saturday and Sunday last. Kilcummin were strongly represented with over 20 athletes competing and the standard was incredibly high as usual. As ever, Kilcummin did not come away empty handed with a few medals collected in Sundays finals.

First mention however goes to Cian Forde who ran superbly in his U12 600m semi-final on Saturday to come home second and qualify for Sundays final. Despite a hectic pace being set in this final Cian had worked his way up on the outside lane and was in a great position for a medal when, with only 150m to go, Cian fell as a number of runners collided. He got to his feet and finished to sustained applause down the final straight. Well done Cian and be very proud of your day’s work.

In the U8 60m final Daniel O’Sullivan got off to an excellent start but there was little between the 8 athletes at the mid-stage. However a really powerful finish saw Daniel achieve a wonderful second place as he brought home the silver medal. In the U10 hurdles finals Cillian O’Leary’s excellent technique and strong running saw him come home in third place and take the bronze medal which was just reward for a series of consistently excellent performances over the two days. And our U16 boys relay team of Colin O’Leary, Micheal Sweeney, Cian Foley, Turlough O’Connor & Dara O’Callaghan came home in second and collected silver medals. So overall a wonderful weekend of running in glorious sunshine and every athlete who completed from Kilcummin can be proud of their efforts.

In recent weeks Kilcummin have also had some other successes. Credit to our competitors in the County Judo finals where Darragh Forde took silver in the Boys U16 30kgs while brother Cian took silver in the U16 34kgs. However, it was their sister Liadh Forde who swept to gold in the U16 Girls 30kgs and now goes forward to represent her parish and county in the National Finals in August.

In the recent All-Ireland Music finals Micheal Healy took fourth place and the pewter medal in the U12 solo music while the U16 Group Music brought home All-Ireland bronze medals which represents a fantastic achievement. So well done to Olwyn Evans, Claire Stagg, Ailbhe Brosnan, Julieanna Friel, Kirill Healy & Ewan Evans and to Grania Evans for her coaching of the team on bringing All-Ireland medals back to Kilcummin.

Finally well done to our U10 Football team who put in excellent performances in the County finals in Tralee earlier this month but a narrow loss meant they missed out on a semi-final place.

Thanks to all our competitors and mentors for ensuring that Kilcummin were very well represented across a huge range of events this year and we can look forward to more of the same in 2019.
