The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
South Kerry set for the 2018 Cahersiveen Music Festival
TO be as long-lasting as Cahersiveen Festival of Music and the
Arts, you need something special.
And they most certainly have something very special in the Ring of Kerry town, given the huge success of its festival each year.
This year is set to be no exception as the committee gears up for its 23rd festival, with a host of events taking place over the August bank holiday weekend.
They are, of course, keeping their fingers crossed that the warm weather will remain but, regardless of the weather, there will be plenty to keep festival-goers happy through the weekend.
With big names such as Lisa McHugh, Natty the Whaler and the Reggae Vibes and Spring Break, there is something for every taste in music.
Celtic Vibe, Small Hours and The Two Mikes are also among the line-up on the town’s stages, which are one of the key features of the weekend.
This outdoor entertainment is supported by music in all the pubs and on the streets, including buskers.
The annual busking competition always keeps the crowds entertained.
Aside from the fantastic gigs, which this year also includes a special gala concert at the O’Connell Memorial Church on Sunday, August 5, there is also family entertainment galore.
This includes a fancy dress parade, a mini-motor pa- rade, a junior walk, as well as sheaf-throwing, tractor-pulling and terrier racing.
Historical walks and talks, including the Cnoc na dTobar pilgrim walk, are also on the cards.
“This year is our 23rd festival and once again we guarantee a great weekend not be missed in Cahersiveen, so don’t forget to put the date in your diary,” said PRO Janette Murphy.
