RTÉ set to broadcast from local World War One commemoration

-

ON this Sunday, November 11, a very auspicious event will take place in the Church of St John the Baptist of Knightstown when the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One will be commemorated.

The fine operatic singing voice of Gavan Ring of Cahersiveen will be heard in an occasion associated with Kerry County Council and supported by the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.

Gavan’s great grandfather James Hill was a soldier of WWI and the church also contains many memorials to Kerry soldiers involved in WWI.

This family association with the War very much triggered Gavan’s interest in the organising of the event in the church of Knightstown.

Music and song associated with the war will feature very prominently.

The Church can accommodate a seating of 130 and admission will be free.

Gavan will also have the internationally renowned pianist Aoife O’Sullivan as a performing partner, with the whole event being broadcast by RTÉ Lyric FM.

For further information on this event, you can contact Gavan at either (085) 147 7164; +44 7475890107; or e-mail him at gavanring@gmail.com.

Alternatively, phone the Kerry County Council Arts Office at (066) 718 3541.
