Shoebox appeal time at Community College
CASTLEISLAND Community College teachers and students are busily making toys using recycled materials for their annual Christmas Shoebox Appeal.
The community college reduces, reuses and recycles for its shoebox appeal.
It also places a huge emphasis on reusable material in the make up of the shoeboxes themselves.
The shoebox appeal has highlighted the importance of recycling as students are encouraged to bring in toys that are in good condition but no longer in use.
The Transition Year Construction studies class, under the guidance of teacher Aidan Joy, are making wooden toys from small pieces of wood left over from Junior and Leaving Certificate projects.
Art classes are making soft toys from scraps of material with their art teacher, Pia Thornton, and the third-year students are making up shoeboxes for their CSPE project with their teacher, Doreen Killington.
Members of the community who wish to donate a shoe box can obtain a leaflet at the school, and they are welcome to drop off their shoe boxes before November 9 to the school.
