Ballyferriter cyclists sets off on epic 12,000km cycle

-

BALLYFERRITER cyclist, Tomás Mac an t-Saoir set out from Cairo on Friday to begin his epic 12,000km to Capetown at the southern tip of the African continent.

Although his first days in the saddle were not without incident, he has reached Luxor the world famous home to the Valley of the Kings and other great monuments. He plans to take a day to go sightseeing and will continue with his fundraising journey on Thursday.

It is not all hard graft; shortly after his arrival in Cairo last week the Irish Ambassador to Egypt Seán O Regan arranged a reception for Tomás at his official residence.

The young cyclist is raising money for the Dónal Walsh Live Life Foundation; this is his second outing to raise funds for the Blennerville-based charity, following from his coast to coast cycle in the USA last year.

Though far away and travelling alone, he is providing updates on his activities and encounters on various social media channels, where he reports that the fund-raising is progressing well with donations now amounting to €8,614 of his €17,595.00 target.

For updates on his progress you can view his social media accounts where Tomás posts regularly. Daily progress can be seen at the following social media accounts.
