Costello is new minor manager

JAMES Costello of St Pats, Blennerville has been appointed as Peter Keane’s successor as Kerry minor football team manager, subject to ratification at the next meeting of the Kerry GAA County Committee.

After being involved in management with his club and St Brendan’s in the county championship, Costello has more recently been involved in the Kerry Development Squad system with Kerry North.

He was involved in the curtain-raiser to the recent county SFC final, which saw a showcase game involving players from the Under-16 Development Squads split in Kerry ‘Green’ and Kerry ‘Gold’ sides.

Costello succeeds new senior manager Peter Keane who finished off his three-year spell with the Minors by ensuring a fifth consecutive title at Minor level after the initial successes under Jack O’Connor in 2014 and 2015.

It is expected that Costello’s backroom team will be announced before the November 26 meeting where his nomination will be officially ratified.
