‘We are in the midst of a golden generation’

HAVING been involved in all four wins, Ciaran Doyle appreciates how much success Glenbeigh / Glencar have enjoyed in their own patch since 2011.

“We are in the midst of a golden generation for the club in terms of success and its something we have to cherish. This is my fourth medal and hopefully I will be around for another few! Overall though its just great to be the captain this year especially what was a poor year for us in general,” the team full-back and captain said.

He highlighted the injury to Peter Crowley and the team emerging unscathed from the second-half schmozzle as big factors in their win, but felt last Sunday’s win was a fitting tribute to the end of Aidan O’Shea and Peter O’Sullivan’s time with the club.

“I just think for what they put into us by taking us to Croke Park and everything it was a fantastic way for it all to end,” Doyle said.

Overall the club is ready to welcome back Darran O’Sullivan full-time and Doyle agrees which the view that it is a very timely return.

“Darran has given so many great years and I think injuries really curtailed him towards the end with Kerry, but having him back next year for all our games will huge especially in the County League. He is a great influence on us all when he is around the club.”

Indeed, when it comes to being competitive in 2019, Doyle still feels the club can have a crack at the Intermediate Championship.

“When you look at Kilcummin this year winning it from Division 2 and going on to Munster now it shows what can be done. I don’t think there is much difference between Division 1 and Division 2 this year with the sides involved.”
