MID KERRY SENIOR FINAL: There was ultimate disappointment for Laune Rangers on Sunday afternoon as a more experienced Glenbeigh/Glencar defeated them in the Mid Kerry Senior Championship Final in JP O’Sullivan Park. Laune Rangers got off to a great start, scoring three points through Colm O’Shea (2) and Peter Crowley in the first three minutes. However, Glenbeigh/ Glencar settled into the game and it took them only five minutes to draw level, as Tommy Cahill (2, 1 free) and Fergal Griffin pointed for the visitors. Rangers scored another three unanswered points before the quarter mark – Fiachra Clifford (free), John Tyther and Colm O’Shea (free) all scoring to leave Laune Rangers ahead by 0-6 to 0-3 with 15 minutes played. Fiachra Clifford pointed a free for Rangers, but it was soon cancelled out by Darran O’Sullivan at the opposite end. Clifford then scored a wonderful point from a near impossible angle for Rangers, but Tommy Cahill (2) and Colin McGillicuddy pointed to leave the minimum between the sides.

Rangers struck the net before the break – a nice move down the left flank saw John Tyther pass into Dáire Cleary, who in turn fed Fiachra Clifford and the forward finished excellently to the bottom corner. Glenbeigh/Glencar responded well and scored the last two points of the half through Kieran Courtney and Darran O’Sullivan to leave Rangers ahead by two at the break.

Half time score: Laune Rangers 1-8, Glenbeigh/Glencar 0-9. Laune Rangers doubled their lead at the start of the second half as Fiachra Clifford and David Costelloe both pointed, but Jack Brosnan got one back for Glenbeigh/ Glencar at the opposite end. That score would prove more costly than expected for Rangers as Peter Crowley got injured in challenging Brosnan – a challenge that would earn him a yellow card once he got back on his feet.

Crowley played on, but was clearly hurt. Daniel Griffin and Fiachra Clifford (free) traded points to leave Rangers ahead by a goal at 1-11 to 0-11 with fifteen minutes to play. The highlight of the third quarter was a huge defensive shoulder by Rangers’ Johnny Carey on Tommy Cahill. Darren O’Sullivan pointed a free for Glenbeigh to narrow the gap, but Shane Daly kicked a long range free from the ground to restore the three point gap. However, momentum had swung in favour of the Glenbeigh side and they scored four points in succession through Darran O’Sullivan (2), Daniel Griffin and Tommy Cahill to take their first lead of the game in the 60th minute. Cahill pointed the winning score in injury time to take the Cup. Full Time Score:- Laune Rangers 1-12, Glenbeigh/ Glencar 0-17.
