Beaufort untroubled by near pointless trip to Tipperary

-

Beaufort 5-16 Ballylooby/Castlegrace (Tipperary) 1-9

AS expected, Beaufort came through their first test beyond the county bounds with flying colours last Saturday in Cahir as they put five goals passed a Ballylooby/Castlegrace side that had to wait 17 minutes for their first score. The Mid Kerry side racked up 2-6 in the opening quarter prior to that white flag as goals from Liam Carey and Ronan Ferris gave them the strong start they would have wanted on their trip to Tipperary.

Beaufort were a small bit guilty of taking their foot off the pedal before half-time however as Barry Cooney finally got their opponents on the scoreboard and frees from William Dunne made it 2-7 to 0-5 at the break. The visitors regained their sharpness upon the resumption however with a further 2-4 without reply, Ferris with his second goal as team captain Nathan Breen scored their fourth goal to continue the processional feel.

In all there were nine different scorers for Beaufort in a 19-point win as a penalty around the three-quarter mark from Cooney put a slightly better complexion on the scoreboard for Ballylooby/Castlegrace as David O’Halloran was the only other scorer for the South Tipperary side alongside both Cooney and Dunne.

Ciaran Kennedy put the seal of Beaufort’s win with their fifth goal late on as they made a strong opening statement of intent in their bid to reclaim the Munster Junior Club Football Championship for Kerry.
