New anthology showcases Kerry talent

- By TADHG EVANS

A NEW anthology of Kerry poetry is set for its launch tonight (Wednesday, November 28), following engagement between Kerry County Council’s Writer in Residence and some of the best talent in the county.

‘Still in the Dreaming’ was edited by Writer in Residence Annemarie Ní Churreáin and showcases the work of 16 poets. It will be launched tonight at Muckross House, and the reception itself will feature readings, a drinks reception, and musical entertainment.

“The evening is very special for everyone involved and, for some, this might be their first time being published, and that is a very important milestone for poets who are progressing their career in the field”, said Annemarie Ní Churreáin.

The anthology’s title is a nod to late Kerry writer John Moriarty’s description of Kerry’s landscape as “still in the dreaming”.

Aside from Kerry County Council, the production received support from Muckross House trustees, the National Parks and Wildlife Service, the Arts Council, and Creative Ireland.

It features the works of Faye Boland, Lorraine Carey, Conor Cleary, Barbara Derbyshire, Kevin Griffin, Philomena Hearne (née Stack), Michael Joyce, Victoria Kennefick, Noel King, Mary Lavery Carrig, John McGrath, Paul Murphy, Elizabeth Murtough, Marian Relihan, Bernadette Ní Riada, and Lola Scollard.

“The anthology is a beautiful production, and we want to compliment all the poets involved and Annemarie for working so diligently to bring it all together,” Kerry County Council Arts Officer Kate Kennelly said.

Anyone interested in attending should contact writer@ kerrycoco.ie.

One can purchase the anthology on the night or for a limited time at the KCC Arts Office. It will be available for loan at Kerry Libraries.
