- By FERGUS DENNEHY

CHRISTMAS is almost upon us once again and for the people of Abbeyfeale, that means that they are now preparing for the visit of the main man himself, the one and only Santa Claus.

He will be making a very special stop in the Square in Abbeyfeale this coming Saturday, November 30, where he will be helping out with the annual tradition of switching on the town’s Christmas lights.

All systems are go for a magical evening from 6pm onwards this coming Saturday, and for PRO of the Abbeyfeale Christmas Lights group Geraldine O’Brien, it is the culmination of many months of hard work, she explained.

“Abbeyfeale is a town to be proud of, with many of the local town and parish helping and giving donations to help,” Geraldine said, speaking to The Kerryman.

In something that will add that little bit more excite- ment to proceedings this weekend, the group will also be debuting new lighting features for the town for Christmas 2018.

The group has held a number of fundraisers in the area over the past few weeks to help cover the cost of these new features, it was explained.

“As usual, we appreciate all the help and donations, and we are very grateful for the wonderful support given from all our local community,” Geraldine continued.

“There is great community spirit here in the town,” she added.

So, if you are in and around the Abbeyfeale area weekend, be sure to stick around and soak up that festive feeling.
