Future stars of the ring shine at Tralee Boxing Club event
IT was ‘seconds out’ on Sunday last as Tralee Boxing Cub hosted another successful day’s action.
Teams from across Kerry and Munster made Tralee their destination as they got a chance to put weeks of hard work and training to good use.
One of the talking points of the day was the excellent talent on show as boys and girls from Limerick, Tipperary, Cork, and the Kingdom caught the eye with some excellent bouts.
Donie Jack Griffin of Tralee Boxing Club said the quality of the bouts reflects the commitment of each boxer, their mentors and their clubs.
Rathkeale Boxing Club brought a strong team of seven boxers to Tralee and went home with five wins.
The Sliabh Luachra Club in Castleisland had three from three with Dean Martin, Paul Browne and Liam Walsh taking honours.
Jordan Goggin from the Ballyduff Boxing Club looked impressive in his bouts, as did many young boxers from the Tralee club.
Tipperary was well represented by Chris Twomey, while some outstanding girls and boys staked their claim for the coming season.
“Win, lose or draw, it was a great start to the season,” Donie said.
“The boxers were glad to open up and clear the airways, mindful of a busy schedule ahead of them in the coming weeks. This will include trips to Castleisland, Ballyduff, Limerick League, Galway, and the Kerry Championship for Tralee Boxing Club.”
“The Munster Championship also beckons and, for the chosen few, a possible tilt at national honours in the National Stadium in Dublin. Tralee Boxing Club would like to thank all the boxers, coaches, referees, judges, and anyone who helped in any way to make our day a success,” Donie added.
