THE GAME IN 60 SECONDS

-

MAN OF THE MATCH

A game that really didn’t have that many stand-out players as teams attacked together and defended together with few stand-outs. If you were a Fermoy supporter hard to look past Cork star Tómas Clancy’s impressive personal display, but on the day it is scores that win games and Kilcummin wing-forward Matt Keane was the man in that regard with three really good scores when scores mattered.

SCORE OF THE GAME

Kilcummin’s late goal was probably the best score of the game without being the most important. Fermoy were all but done when Ian Devane finished off a well worked goal involving six Kilcummin players. Matt Keane hit a pair of beauties before the interval that were much more important and Kieran Murphy also had a terrific point on 47 minutes to celebrate.

TURNING POINT

Difficult to say a turning point came in the opening quarter but on 11 minutes Pádraig De Róiste’s missed penalty was just that. Fermoy could have been five points up and dominating, instead they ended up level four minutes later and struggling. The penalty miss was obviously not fatal, Fermoy were still leading at that stage, but the Cork side subsequently missed a few more sitters and seemed to lose momentum.

TALKING POINT

The talking point surrounding this game obviously focussed in on the participation and mind-set of Kilcummin star Kevin McCarthy. The hugely talented player started, did really well and came off to a heroes ovation. Good day all round for McCarthy and his club men.
