The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Rules of golf roadshow
GOLF’S new rules, recently published by the R&A and USGA, will come into effect on January 1, 2019, and will see some of the most fundamental changes in the way the game is played in generations.
The Irish Ladies Golf Union and the Golfing Union of Ireland are working together to support Golf Club committees in coping with the introduction of the new rules and have organised a series of fourteen roadshows around the country to be held on December 10, 12 and 13. The sessions will be facilitated by experienced referees from both the ILGU and the GUI and will focus on three fundamental areas of change in golf’s new rules – terminology, fundamental principles and issues for the Committee to consider.
These sessions are tailored for committee members in golf clubs and will commence at 7pm and run for approximately two hours with tea and coffee available on arrival.
It is advisable that at the very least one committee member from each club should book a session at one of these roadshows which for the Munster area will be at The Castletroy Park Hotel in Limerick on Wednesday, December 12 and the Mallow GAA Sports complex on Thursday, December 13. Further information on booking is available from the Munster Branch.
In the new year, both unions will also be creating a facility for golf clubs to request a Rules night for their members, facilitated by up to two qualified referees from the GUI and ILGU.
