Important win for CS Abbeydorney

-

DENNY DIVISION 2B Lenamore Rovers 2 CS Abbeydorney 5

CS Abbeydorney travelled to Ballylongford and came away with the three points after a very competitive and entertaining game.

They began the game strongly and a flurry of early goals put them in a commanding position leading 4-0 at half-time. However, Lenamore who were without of number of key players made a great second half comeback and could have grabbed a couple of more goals had they been more clinical up front.

CS Abbeydorney went ahead after just two minutes with Shane Donovan setting up lethal striker Stevie O’Sullivan and he finished to the net from close range.

They doubled their lead six minutes later when Michael Harmon latched on to a Keith O’Connor corner kick and he finished to the net.

Seven minutes later they struck again from a quickly taken free kick with Keith O’Connor rolling the ball to Stevie O’Sullivan and he drilled his shot low to the bottom corner of the net.

The Lenamore defence was unhinged again in the 21st minute with a great over the top ball by Jack Parker finding Shane Donovan and he controlled the ball and rolled it past the advancing keeper.

After this Lenamore began to find their feet with Paul Murphy shooting wide from close range while an effort on goal by Daniel Barden was taken off the line.

CS Abbeydorney had to make a substitution in the 27th minute with Adam Maunsell replacing the injured Ronan Byrne.

Lenamore went close to opening their account in the 37th minute after a nice one two between Steve Foran and Shane O’Sulliven but Foran’s shot was just over the top.

Shane O’Sullivan and Daniel Barden had chances for the Ballylongford side before the break but they could not test the visitors keeper.

Lenamore began the second half very encouragingly and they had a great chance to pull a goal back five minutes in after Shane O’Sullivan made a great run and only had the keeper to beat but he could not find the net.

They were most unlucky two minutes later when a shot from outside the box by Steve Foran clipped the crossbar.

However, they did register a score in the 52nd minute with Jack Mulvihill using his strength and tenacity to get past a couple of opponents and he finished to the net with great precision.

Now they were searching for another and it came in the 72nd minute when Steve Foran found Shane O’Sullivan in a pocket of space outside the box and he turned an unleashed a screamer of a shot which flew into the roof of the net and now AC Abbeydorney were beginning to feel the heat.

Steve Foran went close to reducing the deficit further but he failed to find the net under pressure from an opponent. After this C S kept a tight ship at the back and they sealed the game in the 88th minute when the hit on the counter attack and Shane Donovan scored their fifth goal.
