The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)

A feast of festive fun at Kerry Writers’ Museum

-

VISITORS to Kerry Writers’ Museum this Christmas are in for a feast of festive fun with a variety of events and activities the whole family can enjoy.

Events kick off on Sunday December 2 when Santa & Mrs. Claus return to Kerry Writers’ Museum in an unforgettable Santa Experience. Boys and girls from North Kerry and beyond are invited to visit them in their sitting room where a festive gift will be presented to each by the man himself! And while you are waiting, join the Elves for fun and games, including face painting, arts & crafts and perhaps a surprise or two!

Kerry Writers’ Museum’s Santa Experience also takes place on December 9 and 16 from 2 to 5 pm each day. As Santa’s time at the museum is limited, children are asked to book in advance to make sure they don’t miss out. Each visit takes approximately a half hour.

A festive edition of Literary Listowel Open Mic Reading will take place at the museum on Thursday December 6 from 11 am to 1 pm. All writers, readers, singers and storytellers are invited along to perform; or just come and listen while enjoying a cup of our awarding winning coffee.

Kerry Writers’ Museum is home to Listowel Comhaltas and it will host their end of term concert on Saturday December 8 from 2.30 pm. This special event will showcase the traditional Irish music, song and dance learned by students at the branch classes over the past year.

Kerry Writers’ Museum are delighted once again to partner with St. Vincent de Paul, Listowel in its Christmas ‘Giving Tree’ charitable event. The ‘Giving Tree’ provides all visitors the opportunity to donate non-perishable items suitable for packing into St Vincent de Paul Christmas hampers. Donations can be delivered to the museum until Thursday December 13 when a special ‘Giving Tree’ coffee morning will take place from 11am and 1pm.

Kerry Writers’ Museum would like to extend an open invitation to all, to leave an item under the ‘Giving Tree’ and enjoy the complimentary service of coffee, tea and scones.

The Museum’s Christmas Craft Fair returns to its usual time slot this year on Sunday December 16 from 11 am to 5pm. A wide range of locally produced crafts will be on sale including pottery, knitwear, jewellery, photography, seasonal gifts, to name but a few. Visitors to the Christmas Craft Fair can also enjoy some festive treats with a freshly brewed cup of award winning Alfredo coffee at Castle View Café.

Listowel Christmas Rambling House will take place on Thursday December 27 from 8.30 pm. If you have not already been to this monthly event, come along for a great evening of traditional Irish music, song, dance & storytelling in an informal setting. Admission is free and a cup of tea and some festive treats will be provided to all who attend.

Christmas at Kerry Writers’ Museum culminates with a special evening on Sunday January 6 to celebrate Nollaig na mBán or Women’s Christmas. The event, which commences at 7 pm, will be a celebration of women in poetry, story and song.
